Joan Papa

Joan has been with the Sunshine School for over ten years. She began as a teaching assistant when her daughter attended the school and then became a classroom teacher.

Joan is found most often in the quiet room helping children with various learning activities. These activities provide the children with the opportunity to learn about letters, numbers and colors through art experiences such as collage and paint dabbers. She also helps the children to develop fine motor skills through the use of scissors, markers and pencils.

The quiet room also provides the opportunity to learn important social skills such as sharing and waiting for a turn through group play with Fisher Price® toys, doll houses and other toys designed to encourage these skills. Joan often helps the children solve problems by using their words, which is one of the skills emphasized at the Sunshine School.
